BLIZZARD ENTERTAINMENT® ANNOUNCES WORLD OF WARCRAFT® SPANISH VERSION STREET DATE â 29 SEPTEMBER, 2006
France, Paris â 22 September 2006 -- Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. today announced that the Spanish version of World of Warcraft®, its subscription-based massively multiplayer online role-playing game, will be available at retail outlets in Spain on 29 September, 2006. This version represents the fourth language available to European players, following the original English, French and German versions, which launched in February 2005. The game has been fully localized into Spanish by the Blizzard in-house localization team.
The Spanish version of World of Warcraft will be hosted in Europe and supported by a dedicated Spanish-speaking team based at the Blizzard Europe offices. This will include 24/7 in-game support, offline customer support, a community team and an official World of Warcraft website in Spanish: www.wow-europe.com/es. World of Warcraft is operated in Europe by a local team of more than 600 Blizzard employees representing 24 different nationalities.
"This launch represents another important milestone for World of Warcraft," said Mike Morhaime, president and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment®. "The European Spanish community has shown great enthusiasm for the English version of the game, and we hope that the availability of a dedicated Spanish version will further enhance their gameplay experience."
"Since launch, World of Warcraft has continued to grow rapidly, both in terms of the amount of game content available and the number of players signing up to play," said Mike Morhaime, president and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. "With The Burning Crusade, we look forward to expanding the game's boundaries even farther and offering a wide variety of new challenges and new rewards for both beginning and advanced players to enjoy."
World of Warcraft players in Europe will be able to convert their copy of the game to the Spanish version free of charge via a language pack that can be downloaded from the official website. This will let them access and create new characters on the Spanish realms in addition to the other European realms. Furthermore, once the Spanish version of the game has launched, European players will be able to transfer characters to the Spanish realms via the paid character transfer service. Spanish players who remain on English, German or French realms will continue to receive customer support in the corresponding language of those realms.
The Spanish version of World of Warcraft will be available for Windows® 2000/XP and Mac® OS X 10.3.9 or higher and will include a one-month subscription to the game. After the initial one-month subscription ends, players will be able to continue playing under one of three different subscription plans. The basic month-to-month subscription plan costs 12.99⬠per month, while the three-month plan costs 11.99⬠per month and the six-month plan costs 10.99⬠per month. World of Warcraft subscription fees can be paid with all major credit cards, many local cards, direct debit and prepaid game cards.
World of Warcraft has steadily grown in popularity around the world since its initial launch in North America, Australia and New Zealand in November 2004. The game's content and player population expanded rapidly in 2005, with subsequent launches in Korea, Europe, China, Singapore and the regions of Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau. There are currently more than 1.25 million European World of Warcraft players, with the worldwide total now at nearly 7 million players. World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusadeâ¢, the expansion for World of Warcraft, is due to release by the end of this year. In Europe, The Burning Crusade will launch in English, French, German and Spanish.
